Everybody’s Money is Green: How to Find the Right Fit For Your Business

Everybody’s Money is Green: How to Find the Right Fit For Your Business

No matter what type of business you have, there are clients for that business. It may seem hard to reach them but once you’ve got a clear plan and understanding of what YOU bring to the market? Getting leads is the easy part. Finding clients who mesh with your values? That’s where things get a little sticky.

As someone who can bring in 61% more leads in a month from Facebook Ads alone and increase engagement across the board over 100% individually on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, I have a responsibility.

A friend of mine is referring me to one of his clients. We talked about it and he said that they’re laying the foundations to be able to handle the volume I would bring in.

While that felt a little uncomfortable to own, the Warrior inside of me was jumping for joy.

I have spent a decade watching, learning and growing. I’ve focused on getting a true understanding of what makes people click (both digitally and in real life) and how to grow a brand from the ground up.

All Wonder Women metaphors aside, using the tactics, strategies and skills I have can create massive results and this is something I really am passionate about. To me, having this type of “power” comes with responsibility.

I don’t have to like you to work with you… but it does help

I believe anyone with a platform has a responsibility to use that platform to share good content — vetted content, accurate content, TRUE content. Retweeting or resharing bad content or unverified content can have serious consequences — there’s an entire website devoted to debunking the Web (Snopes.com) and I definitely aim to be part of the solution, both as an individual content creator and as someone who creates content for others.

Do I have to like you as a human being to take you on as a client? Hell, no.

Do I have to agree with your politics, your life philosophy, and brand identity to take you on as a client? Hell, no.

But do I want to make sure that your brand is spreading positivity instead of negativity? Hell, yes.

I don’t take this lightly and YOU shouldn’t either.

Affiliate Marketing and Influencer Marketing is where this really comes into play because if you’re putting your name behind something and sharing it with your carefully curated audience, you want to make sure it supports them, right?

That’s where my favorite NYC saying “everybody’s money is green” comes into play.

You can work with anyone, but do they deserve your unique skill set?

I’m not talking about “deserve” in a sense of passing judgment on how “worthy” a project or budget is. I’m talking about connecting to who you are as a person, what YOUR goals are and deciding if connecting your brand, business and name to this project is going to be worth the long term results that will have for your business and theirs.

Your name is all you have, guard it with your life

As a journalist, I learned that my name was to be protected because that’s ALL people would know me as. As a journalist “bred” in the age of digital media, I learned to protect my handles too.

As a businesswoman, my word is platinum and I will never, ever, ever forget that. And I don’t want YOU to forget that either.

No matter what you’re selling, your name, brand and business will forever be tied to it, especially if you use the internet as a vehicle to gain exposure for the venture (and if you’re not doing that in even a small way, you won’t succeed).

Moral of the story: Everybody’s money is green but only some people will be the right fit for YOU as clients. Respect that, honor that and tell the Universe you’re ready for more of that alignment.

Magic WILL happen and you’ve earned it.

Episode 5: Your Quick Start Guide to Affiliate Marketing

Episode 5: Your Quick Start Guide to Affiliate Marketing

This episode shares a quick start guide to passive income through affiliate marketing by discussing influencers, affiliate networks and ways YOU can get started today.

Money. It’s power, freedom and something we ALL need. If we let it consume us, then we can truly be lost in an instant but if we find a way to control and respect it? That, my dear listeners, is the key to success.

Happy, happy last week of June! I am SO excited for the Fourth of July this year… the end of the month is always such an interesting time. For my clients, I’m evaluating what worked, what can be optimized and how we can deal with the “updates” that Facebook, Instagram and the rest of the social media networks have thrown into the mix.

It can be exhausting!

But it can also be so… exhilarating to see what worked and how well it worked. I’ve been sharing a lot of these updates live on my Instagram @vixinthecity, so if you haven’t checked that out, you DEFINITELY should.

How do you evaluate your success month over month, week over week and year over year? Well, for starters, it can be measured by the impact you’ve had on your clients’ bottom line — their bank account… which usually also translates to the impact you’ve had on YOUR bank account.

Building a business can be challenging but there are also lots of tactics you can use to get the funds you need to make the investments that will help you succeed.

And one of those ways is affiliate marketing.

You know I love me some SoulCycle. The best part about SoulCycle is the community… and that’s how I connected with Mark, @profitoverwage on Instagram. Mark and I started talking about affiliate marketing and I was amazed at some of the stats he shared.

In my mind, there are three ways to look at affiliate marketing if you are an online entrepreneur, especially if you are an online entrepreneur who coaches as part of their business offering.

Affiliate Marketing for Your Biz Tools

I’m a HUGE fan of the tools I use to run my business. From Sprout Social for social media reporting and scheduling to Schedugr.am for Instagram scheduling and Ontraport for business client relationship management, landing pages and more, these tools LITERALLY help me run my business more efficiently which translates to better results for my clients and more choice about how I spend my time both in the business and personal spheres of my life.

When I started running my business, I came across a digital entrepreneur who focused on graphic design — she had a WHOLE page on her website dedicated to the programs and tools she used, which I later learned were all connected to her unique affiliate links.

Flash forward two years and I have a link for every single tool I use. I recommend them to clients, colleagues and friends — it fits perfectly into my “VixFix” brand — where I’ve got the fix for everything you need and it allows me to get credits (and, in some cases, cold, hard cash) for sharing the things I truly use and believe in.

The best part of this is that ANYONE can get started with this today. Almost every, single third-party tool offers some sort of affiliate or referral program — look into it and find a way to add this to your weekly social media marketing efforts.

Affiliate Marketing for Your Biz Contacts

This is what I refer to as Supercharged Influencer Marketing. If you’re sharing recommendations for your audience from your colleagues or business contacts, you’re doing affiliate marketing for those biz contacts. Editorial publications have been doing this for YEARS! Their writers recommend their own posts and their colleagues’ posts and BOOM more traffic. For editorial publications, more traffic equals more ads which equals more money and jobs for the writers and contractors.

It’s super simple to get started with these — and sometimes, you can even start an organic program with your Instagram Pod. An Instagram Pod is something I’ve talked about on my blogs (http://vixinthecity.com and http://thecvmgroup.nyc) — basically, you find 5-10 people who are in similar industries and you share their products, services and handles to create more organic and authentic interactions. These have varying degrees of success and it is important to remember that as you get started, but overall, affiliate marketing for your business colleagues and contacts can be very lucrative.

The most lucrative one is Marie Forleo’s B-School and that’s a model to watch if you’re trying to create this for yourself. It’s also a great way to drum up business when you’re getting started, especially if you are comfortable giving away a portion of the contracts you’re referred — this is a great way to scale without hiring a true “sales” team.

Affiliate Marketing for Your Biz Vertical

This last piece of the puzzle is related to building your brand… and can also be related to building separate brands for the offers that are available. Facebook ads is a great way to run some of these cost per action (CPA) affiliate marketing campaigns AND sharing them in your email list, especially if they relate to your organic content buckets, can be quite successful. This is more closely related to true, strict Influencer marketing BUT doesn’t always have to be related to your zone of genius, which is something I’m learning more about and will report back as I continue to get informed about these new tactics, tools and strategies.

At the end of the day, you have to do what feels authentic to you. For example, I love building Facebook pages and running Facebook ads to grow the audience and/or to increase the organic reach, engagement and link clicks. This is something I am so passionate about — but, for me, I want to make sure that the offers I share with these audiences are completely in line with what they came to us for — and that is how I feel most successful. When I can give you, dear listeners, readers and followers, what YOU are searching for in a quick and easy fix? THAT is what makes my heart sing.

These three ways should give you some things to consider when getting started with Affiliate Marketing — and I’d LOVE to hear your thoughts! Search for my Facebook Group, DIY Your Digital Empire and join the conversation about all things to help YOU build and profit from your digital empire.

That’s all for this episode of The Get! In July, we’ll be adding interviews into the mix and I am SO excited to share the stories I’ve got lined up for you!!! I’ll be taking some time off around the fourth to recharge and get inspired so follow along on social media — @vixinthecity on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I hope you take some time for a digital detox — it can truly save your life and your career… and after all, isn’t getting the career you want all about getting to make the CHOICES you crave?

Yes, yes it is.

Get out there and have some fun this week! Here’s to getting paid, getting inspired and getting the life of your dreams.

Episode 4: Get Informed — Avoiding Digital Fatigue

Episode 4: Get Informed — Avoiding Digital Fatigue

This episode helps you find the hacks you need to learn about expanding your skills, broadening your mindset and getting the information you need to succeed in all areas of your work, life and play.

We’re all fatigued by the internet. And that makes us make some pretty bad decisions. If you’re only reading content that you agree with, are you really growing?

Hello and Welcome to The Get. I’m your host, Vix Reitano. This podcast is a new content effort of mine, something of a passion project.

I’m a social media expert, media enthusiast and content strategy expert with a nose for news. Stories, in my opinion, are the only constant in this world — the give and take of information is what allows us to grow as a society as individuals, so why the hell are we fighting it?

This episode of The Get falls into our “Get Informed” category. Because how can you truly advance unless you’re getting properly informed about your options?

Yesterday, I was looking for a refresher on building a GIF in Photoshop. I knew there was a way to do it but I hadn’t done it for a minute so I couldn’t remember the exact steps to make it look the way I wanted it to.

I came across every-tuesday.com and Teela is an expert. I also came across a lot of other “tutorials” in my search and they were not experts. How did I know the difference?

Well, for starters, every-tuesday.com has a HUGE library of resources, that was my first indication that she actually knew what she was talking about.

And then, many of her resources built on one another — the ability to create a series is another indication of an expert.

And finally, if you’re really not sure — ASK THEM QUESTIONS!! A true expert should be able to expand on the topic and also offer you customized solutions.

If they can’t do that, then it might be worth looking into their background a bit more before you decide that they are YOUR guru.

Guru is something I’m also thinking about today… it’s #WisdomWednesday after all, one of the most popular trends on the Web. Last week, we talked about getting on the trending train and if you haven’t listened to that episode, you totally should. It’s a great 5-part exercise to help you identify what type of content will trend for you and how you can jump into other trends.

Which is why all of the clients I work with share some sort of content on Wisdom Wednesday related to the trending topic — but why is it popular?

According to Forbes, 59% of people will share a story without even reading it. Think about your own habits — how can get you get informed if you’re only reading 140 characters? OR LESS!!! Getting informed is about understanding the story behind the headline, which is something we SO rarely read.

And, of course, digital fatigue is real so, sometimes, it can be a challenge to read more than the headline, especially if you’ve had a long day of research.

What’s the solution?

Finding your own hacks!!! That’s why I created a new DIY Digital Hacks series on YouTube. I also use Newsletters and Podcasts to hack my way around the content that is coming at me each and every day. You do have to be careful here as well –> if you bookmark too many things, you can fall into the same trap of not really reading anything, but newsletters can be great, especially if you block time in your calendar to read them.

Some of my favorite newsletters are:

The Daily Carnage

The Lily by The Washington Post

Levo’s Daily Newsletter

MuckRack’s Daily Newsletter

Another great way to get this information? Podcasts! But you’re listening to this so you already know that!

Getting informed is about finding content that challenges any preconceived notions you might have and allows you to have a larger conversation. It doesn’t always feel great, but it is necessary.

I’d love to hear what YOU are reading these days and what newsletters and podcasts you’re listening to. Let’s connect in my FREE Facebook Group which you can find by searching for DIY Your Digital Empire.

I’m gearing up to do a series of interviews for this podcast and I can’t wait to share them with you!!!!

Don’t forget to subscribe and leave feedback on Apple podcasts, I’d love to hear your thoughts on The Get and what else you’d like to learn about.

Here’s to another week of expanding your skillset, knowledge and abilities so that you can get the life you want.

Business Basics: How Do I Set My Rates?

Business Basics: How Do I Set My Rates?

Money, money, monayyyyy. Money is, in my not-so-humble opinion, freedom and security. Money allows you to make the choices you want to build your business in a way that is aligned with your goals, beliefs and philosophies. Money allows you to help the causes you are passionate about.
Money can change your life.

We spend our lives in the pursuit of dollars and cents through one job (or jobs) or another (or many others) and sometimes, it can seem like a dead end or a round-robin of opportunities that leave us wanting.

So how do you change that?

By claiming and owning your worth — and then, asking for it.

For cubicle warriors venturing out into side hustle land for the first time or for entrepreneurs creating their first rate sheets after their leap, this can be a daunting task. But it doesn’t have to be. This simple formula will help you determine what you should charge for the work you’re doing, what feels good to you AND how to grow your rates over time.

Step 1: What is Your Hourly Rate

If you’re working a salaried job, add up all of your benefits and salary (plus any 401K-matches, etc) and then divide the hours you work each week (all of them). That’s your current hourly rate. When you’re working as a contractor or consultant, your hourly rate should be higher based on the level of service you provide.

Step 2: What’s the Going Rate

This is where my Find Your Five formula comes in handy. Find five people who are doing what you do and see how they list their prices, what they share about their process… get intimately familiar with what the going rate is for the services you profile.

Step 3: What Would YOU Pay

If you needed someone with your skill level, background and knowledge, what would you pay them? Think about all different levels of investments and be truly honest with yourself about your experience and background. This one might take you some time but it is an important step.

Step 4: Ask Your Audience

Your audience will tell you what they’re willing to pay for the services you’re providing — they may not tell you directly, but they will tell you. A big indicator is if no one purchases your packages or services. It could be that your audience is a bit too small for the return you’re looking for, but, more likely and more often than not, it is that the price point is not in line with your location or service area.

Sept 5: Test… and Ask Again

Try out the prices and packages you’ve created… and then try again. Run a beta, ask people to test the project or program out. Don’t do work for free — that’s never a smart strategy — but find ways to get a test group together to help you move forward.

This is a process that should be repeated time and time again as you move forward in building your business, side hustle, and any entrepreneurial endeavor.
